To start with, you must have a diet plan. The plan must be followed to the letter. Any junk foods that were initially consumed must be forgotten. Instead of the regular 3 meals, you will have to divide the same into 5 or 6 meals spread evenly throughout the waking life. By taking small meals, you will not be overloading you digestive system. You will be giving the system enough room to metabolize your foods. Besides eating 5 or 6 meals, you are advised to choose your food wisely. Often, weight loss therapists advice that you take foods that have a high thermic effect of food (TEF). These are foods that require a lot of energy to burn down. They include whole grains and unprocessed foods. In addition to these foods, it is recommended that you take fish that are rich in omega 3 fatty acids. These include sardines, mackerel and tuna. Amazingly, omega 3 fatty acids have the capacity to increase metabolism rate by up to 600 calories per day.

Next on the program are exercises. These need not to be strenuous. Regular walks and use of stairs (instead of elevators) will yield positive results.

Besides a well-thought-out diet program and an active lifestyle, you are advised to avoid self-sabotaging behavior like excessive alcohol drinking as this will only help you to add weight. Gradual weight loss is possible without the need to go through expensive surgical procedures. Diet and exercise programs alone may be enough. If you have to use pills, ensure that you use certified products. The right pills may help you lose weight in a dramatic way without causing any complications. Before you use the pills, however, consult your doctor.
